Our Star Power Band series is our most popular series and
is also our best value. You meet once a week for a private music lesson with your teacher for the individual
attention you need to really learn your instrument.
Your private lesson teacher will help prepare you for all of the
performance events held throughout the year.
You also attend one of the weekly hour long band
sessions: Rock School Band offered for your age group. You will have a chance for solo and group performing,
and might even be invited to perform at one of the local venues we book throughout the
year.
You will also be able to participate in all of the school
concerts, festivals and competitions that we offer.
The world needs music! Are you playing your
part?

Star Power Bands are for beginners through advancing players on all instruments. Learning to play
together as a team, mastering your part, putting it all together as a stage performance, learning about basic
styles and concepts is covered each week.
Our teachers are professional "gigging" musicians with university training and real-world playing experience.
Basic music theory concepts are also taught using examples from the songs the bands are playing.
We focus on how music is put together with intervals, patterns, chords, steady beat and basic rhythms and
rhythmic notation, 12-bar form and improvisation.
Students move ahead in their skill levels at their own pace, and the teacher assigns parts appropriate for each
band member. Rock 'n Roll (classic and contemporary) and familiar classics.
Band Blow Outs: Lights, Camera Action! Twice a year the Rock Band
Students perform in our Performance Hall on a stage with professional equipment, lighting and sound. The Concerts
feature each student as a part of the Band as well. With so many different instrumentalists represented the
one-hour Concerts keep the attention of all family members. These Concerts are one of the many highlights of our
School, and what keeps students coming back year after year.
Texas State Theory Test: All students at the Frisco School of
Music work on theory curriculum at their level, but we realize that some students are not interested or available
to devote additional time to prepare for and attend a special testing day. Sitting for the yearly Texas State
Theory Test is optional, and is for students who want to earn a medal for a score of 90 and above. Interested
students complete a Texas State Theory Test Registration Form and return it to our office before the deadline.
There is a written and a listening section for each test level. The testing fee is $15 (billed to your materials
account). The Texas State Theory Test covers basic musical knowledge at levels 1-12. Concepts include level
appropriate questions regarding note names, intervals, chords, rhythms, meters, patterns and scales, key
signatures, harmonic progression, vocabulary, ear-training and more. All information on the test is covered in the
weekly private lessons and in the Theory Time Books. Students prepare by completing and reviewing all chapters in
their level Theory Time Book, and by completing two practice tests during the semester. Students earn a ribbon for
participating, and a medal for scoring 90-101.
Rising Star Music Competition: Each year the Frisco School of
Music hosts the Rising Star Music Competition. The purpose of the Competition is to recognize talented young
musicians, and is open Frisco area students ages 9-18 years old. Instrument Divisions include Piano, Guitar/Bass,
Drums, Instrumental (violin, viola, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet), and Voice, plus Multi-talent. Students
enter by completing a registration form and posting their video on-line for preliminary voting by the public.
Finalists perform at the Frisco School of Music on competition day and are judged by a panel of local talent
agents, and celebrity judges. Think American Idol here…winners receive trophies and cash awards, and also receive a
cash award for their public/private school music department. This event is amazing, and brings out the best and
most talented young musicians in the community.
